Princesses & Fairies Coloring Book

This is the follow up book to Fairy Tales from talented Japanese artist, Tomoko Tashira.  Tomoko has a delicate, fine style of illustration that often features an abundance of florals throughout which is evident in this Princesses and Fairies coloring book.

Cover & Layout

The book measures  25cm x 25cm (approximately 9 3/4 in x 9 3/4 in) and has a lovely fold out dust jacket featuring Cinderella.  The cover is beautiful white gloss with a partially colored image on it.    The colors selected and the line work are similar to the previous book on Fairy Tales for consistency.   You could color the cover in, but there are quite a lot of illustrations to color inside without worrying.  If you chose to color it in, you would need to use a medium that works well with a gloss cover.    There is nothing to color on the inside of the dust jacket which is a shame as it would have made a nice fold out poster.

The book proper has a teal cover with white line art on it from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.    This cover image is reproduced as the title work for you to color in.  For consistency, it would have been nice had the dust jacket cover been used as the title page cover, in my opinion.    The start of the book has a small Introduction page with a few elements to color on it.    As always, this is a great place to test your mediums and see how they react with the paper.

The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the paper.     The paper is medium quality and white.

Illustrations

The illustrations comprise a variety of double page scenes and single page line art.     The theme is Princesses and Fairies and the book has been worked into sections comprising Thumbelina, The Frog Prince, The Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Real Princess, Cinderella, Princess Minon Minelle, The Fairies, The Mermaid, The Flying Trunk, The Moon Princess and Tanabata.   At the rear of the book there is some text about each of the sections.  Unfortunately, as this is not in English I cannot read it.  Some pages of thumbnails of the books pages have also been included together with a gorgeous Afterword page

The line art is black throughout the book and the majority of lines are fine and delicate.   The illustrations compliment the delicacy of the outlines with many drawings being quite dainty.

The Flying Trunk

Although the theme is Princesses and Fairies the artist has added a variety of other art to the book.    There are double page scenes of flowers, wallpaper patterns with a floral theme, pages of birds, glass slippers and jewels.

Tanabata

The majority of illustrations have a lot of detailed line art which may not be suitable if you are suffering a visual or motor impairment.     There are a few pages with larger areas of space to color.

The images have been beautifully centered on the page but there are many double page scenes where the illustration runs to the binding of the book.   This area may prove tricky to color in.   Fortunately, the book does lay flat with some firm pressure.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
