This cute coloring book sets the scene of a winter wonderland. You can imagine the cold, crisp air and the first sign of frost on the flowers as you color your way through the season. The book takes you through a journey of a European Winter including the festive season and moving into Spring.

Mein Winterspaziergang Coloring Book Review

Mein Winterspaziergang is illustrated by Rita Berman. The German title roughly translates to My Winter Walk. Rita Berman has created a series of 4 colouring books that each chooses one of the seasons as theme for the colouring book.

Cover & Layout

Mein Winterspaziergang follows the same format as all the colouring books in this series. A matte laminate white cover depicts a partially coloured scene from the book.

The book measures approximately 20.5cm x 20.5 cm 7.8 in x 7.8 in

As the theme of My Winter Walk is the Winter season the cover contains imagery that reminds us of this seasons with trees heavy with ice, swirls of wind, snow capped mountains and of course Santa’s sleigh with a few presents still on board. Of course, Mein Winterspaziergang is produced by a german artist and in Germany in Winter Santa is making his appearance. In Australia, poor Santa is sweating in the Summer heat 🙂

The back cover continues the design theme from the front.

In the centre there’s a graphic of the open book and colouring pencils. The text in German below may be indicating that the book is best used with coloring pencils rather than other types of media.

Ancillary Pages

A plain page that just has the publisher’s logo on it and author information on the reverse opens the book. This would be the best spot to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper and your colouring style.

A title page follows that has a cute star to color in. Copyright information is on the reverse.

An introductory page by the author follows. This page is adorned with cute houses in a winter scene.

At the end of the book you will find reproductions of the line art for the cover art of the other books in this series of colouring books.

Layout

All of Rita Berman’s books produced in this series feature printing on both sides of the white, medium quality paper. The paper is on the lighter end of medium and is ideally suited for pencils.

There are 28 pages that comprise double page scenes where the line art runs to the spine of the book. The book lays down quite well after just one or two flip throughs. This makes me confident that with further use it will lay down flat making it easier to color.

Mein Winterspaziergang  Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

Rita Berman illustrates in a very cute and whimsical style. This Winter themed book features beautifully outlined berries and leaves common in the European Winter, naive style scenes featuring cutesy mountains and quirky buildings and an array of different items that make you think of Winter – mittens, snowflakes, chimney smoke drifting over the dark night, spiced cookies and steaming hot tea.

One of my favourite things about this colouring book is the abundance of cute animals that have cameo roles in the book. There is a bunny! A cute kitty scarf, a rugged up penguin and an array of lovely birds.

This is the type of book that you need to remember you have in your stack when Christmas rolls around. Many of the images in this book have a Christmas theme, as you would expect from a colouring book based on the European Winter. There are lanterns, Christmas lights, wreaths of flowers, garlands, Christmas stockings, Christmas trees and a delightfully cute Christmas village covered in snow.

Most of the line art in the book is black, crisp and a medium weight. There are a few pages that have a finer line weight which is usually based on the delicacy of the image. Some images contain varying line weights which always gives more depth and dimension to a picture as well as dashes of solid black color.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
