Portable coloring and functional notebook in a sturdy format for the colorist on the move

I love notebooks! I often prefer notebooks and postcards to more traditional coloring books because they are portable and functional.

When the folks at Coloring Notebook contacted me and offered me a notebook to review I jumped at the chance. Another notebook that I can color for me! Yay! In fact, I’d seen the Coloring Notebook before online and had already put it on my want list.

Cover & Layout

The coloring notebook is A5 sized measuring 5.83 x 8.27 inches (148 x 210 mm). It has the appearance of moleskin but is, in fact,  synthetic leather. The notebook is bound in a black matte cover. There appears to be only one cover color at this stage. It features a yellow ribbon bookmark and a wide elastic black band to close the book.

The notebook is for colorists who would like a functional product for their lifestyle but also some pages to color in as well.

There are three different types of notebooks available for colorists – ruled lines, blank pages or dot grids.

Colouring notebook review

At the end of the book there is a card pocket to store items like receipts for example.

Illustrations

I cannot locate any details about any artist who has created the images in the notebook. The website does state that there are “Over 50 original coloring pages for adults from the best graphic artists ” and these artists are from “Australia, Canada, France, Italy, US, Ukraine and Japan“. There are 176 pages in the notebook in total. Of these there are 41 single page images and 10 that comprise double page scenes.

The paper is stated by Coloring Notebook to be acid free and 100 gm. From my testing of the notebook the suitable mediums to use are tombow markers, pencils, paper mate pens and gel pens. Do not use Inktense or alcohol based markers as both will bleed through to the other side, and in the case of the Bic Markers I tried through several pages. Please note that I have only tested the products referred to and not every medium on the market.

The illustrations are varied there are ocean themed drawings, cats, patterns, whimsical images and mandalas. The line work is black throughout and quite crisp and clear. The art work appears to be a number of different graphic artists as there are different styles and line weights being used throughout the book.

There is a nice variation between simple images and those that are more intricate with fine detail.

The book lays down easily further assisted by the handy black elastic to secure it.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
