Christmas Nutcracker Coloring Book  Review

It’s hard to believe but …….I actually bought this Korean coloring book last year to color in for Christmas.    For over a year the poor little thing has been pushed to the side of my shelf until the Christmas spirit came to town again.     You may notice that in the video review, that some of the outer part of the pages are slightly yellow.     This is not a defect of the book.  It was perfectly fine when I first purchased it 🙂  Unfortunately, it has been stored in the Sydney sunlight for some time on my shelf which has discolored some of the page borders.

Cover & Layout

The matte cover of Christmas Nutcracker coloring book features full color printing that has a raised, glossy  stuck on like effect.  On the matte back cover there is a lovely wreath that you can color in.   The french flaps have text at the front of the book with advertisements at the back of the book.

Christmas Nutcracker measures approximately 25cm x 25cm.

Ancillary Pages

The book commences with a plain text title page with copyright information on reverse.   This or the extended, decorated title page that follows would be the best  place to test out your markers.

Layout

Each illustration has been printed on one side of the off white, medium quality paper, which is very sturdy.   On the reverse of each page there is a decorative frame with “The Nutcracker” title on it.

As the illustrations are one sided you could use the mediums of your choice on the paper.   If you are coloring in the book,  I would of course place some blotter pages between the pages particularly if you are using wet mediums.

Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

Illustrations are very cartoonish and whimsical in this coloring book.    That makes it a fabulous book for colorists of all ages and skill levels.    You will find sweetly cute buildings, cutesy people, snowmen, Christmas trees and decorations and some nature based images.

All of the art work has been well centered and positioned on the page for ease of coloring.

One of the great things about this coloring book is that the images contain large areas of open space.   This makes it perfect for colorists that have a minor visual impairment or difficulty with motor skills and small spaces.    There are some images that have more detail than others but the bulk of the images aim for ease of coloring.    As always these outlined based images can look wonderful when colored flat and solid but can take on a new dimension if you are able to apply some technique to the art work.

The line art is black and crisp and very easy to see.   Line weight varies between a medium and a slightly finer line.   The images have the appearance of hand drawn but I am unable to confirm that.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
