The Exotic Colouring Notebook Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of The Exotic Colouring Notebook illustrated by Meg Cowley.

The Exotic Colouring Notebook Review

I adore notebooks and stationery, I have a whole drawer full of them and can barely walk past a notebook without wanting to take it home for some special purpose. I have notebooks that are filled with ideas for different projects, notebooks for general day to day “to do” lists, hardback notebooks, soft cover notebooks and, of course, notebooks that you can color in.

A notebook that you can color in as well for me, is a great thing. They are not only practical (I love practical coloring pages) but you also get to color as well. Unlike a large coloring book, the pictures are generally smaller and that means that it is great for when you have a little time and feel like coloring but not a lot of time to really get involved in a large coloring page.

The Exotic colouring notebook is not only practical and functional and satisfies the colouring urge but also satisfies the need to make a difference in the world. As the coloring book is based on exotic animals (not sure why it wasn’t titled “Exotic Animals”) funds from the sale of each book are donated to the World Land Trust. The World Land Trust will use the money in their Buy An Acre program where they buy an acre of rainforest in order to protect the species that reside in that area and conserve the area for long term use.

Cover & Layout

The glossy soft cover features colored animals from within the book against a green background. All of the animals featured in the cover art are included in the book as individual pages for you to color in.

The Exotic Colouring Notebook is available in both A5 and A4 sizes and is based on the coloring book of the same name. My review is of the A5 sized notebook.

The A5 sized notebook is a great size for your handbag.  The soft cover ensures that it is sturdy, but not too heavy, in your handbag (sometimes I feel like I’m carrying around a cement bag with the weight of my handbag lol).

It measures 23cm x 15cm (approximately 9in x 6in).

Layout

The Exotic Colouring Notebook is printed on both sides of the white, trade stock quality paper.

The cover art has been reproduced as the title page for the coloring notebook for you to color in. This would be the best spot to test out your mediums. The same image has been used again as a nameplate page.

A dark grey has been used for ruled lines within the book and there are roughly 3 ruled line pages and then one illustration throughout the notebook.

Each illustration of an animal is also accompanied by details of their conversation status.

The Exotic Colouring Notebook Images and Illustrations

Within the notebook you will find the following illustrations to color in (in addition to the title page and nameplate page)

African Lion
Pangolin
Hummingbird
Red Wolf
Cape Seahorse
Golden Lancehead Viper
African Bush Elephant
Blue Throated Macaw
Red Panda
Imperial Zebra
Galapogos Tortoise
Tarsier
Pygmy Three Toed Sloth
Golden Lion Tamarin
Sumatran Tiger
Amur Leopard
Giant Panda
Phillipine Eagle
Cheetah
Giant Manta Ray
Panamanian Golden Frog
Mountain Gorilla
Monarch Butterfly
Southern Bluefin Tuna
Gharial
Northern White Rhino
Rothschild’s Giraffe
unnamed bird

The illustrations have been decorated with patterns on them.   The line art is black and crisp throughout the illustration section of the book.

You will find that some illustrations have a thicker line weight to denote foreground in the image.

Colorists that have minor visual impairment may find that the smaller sized images, heavily patterned, may not be easy to see.      The A4 notebook with the larger images inside may be a better option.

All of the art work has been well positioned and centered in the notebook for ease of coloring.  None of the art work abuts the spine, so colorists should be able to color all areas easily.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
