Romantic Princess Coloring Book  Review

Romantic Princess is a beautiful Japanese colouring book that features well known Princesses in Fairy Tales, as well as other well known fairy tales.    Inside you will find your favourites like Sleeping Beauty,   Cinderella,  The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid,  Arabian Knights, Thumbelina,   The Nutcracker,  Swan Lake,  Alice in Wonderland,  The Secret Garden and A Midsummer Nights  Dream.

Cover & Layout

On the dust jacket cover  a coloured image of Sleeping Beauty which is also in the book for you to color as well. The Title of the book on the front cover  is in English and Japanese.   An elegant touch is that the title is framed in gold foil.

The back cover features the balance of the Sleeping Beauty cover art with some coloured flowers and birds, and line art that you could color in as well.

Romantic Princess Colouring Book measures approximately 10.8 in x 9 in (27.3 cm x 22.8cm).

Fold out flaps on the colouring book dust jacket feature line art that you could color in as well.

The glossy card cover of the book features a pink background with white outlines of thumbnails from within the colouring book.

Ancillary Pages

A beautifully coloured page starts the colouring book that shows an open book and elements of well known stories floating out of it like Cinderella’s slipper and the lamp from Aladdin.    This sets the scene for the line art that is to follow.

A pretty visual index of the book follows. Each fairy tale has been depicted in coloured thumbnails in the index so that you can quickly see what images have been included with your favourite story.

Over page a coloured double page spread from Sleeping Beauty gives you inspiration to color the line art in the book. Judging from the arrows and text, it may be that there are some colouring tips on this page as well.  Unfortunately as the text  is in Japanese I cannot read what it says.

At the back of the book there are two pages of text, presumably with a summary of each fairy tale. The last page features copyright information and a small bird that you can color in. These pages would be ideal to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper and your colouring technique.

Layout

The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the white paper. The medium quality paper has a very slight texture to it. All of the art work has been orientated portrait style with no landscape orientated pictures.

There are 40 double page scenes within the book where the art work does run to the spine of the book. As the spine is quite rigid at the moment, some of these areas may be tricky to color. I am confident that Mr Muscles may be able to push the spine flat for me, if it defeats me.

Romantic Princess Coloring Book  Images and Illustrations

The art work in Romantic Princess is beautiful and elegantly drawn. Pages feature well known scenes from the fairy tales that most of us know so well. The art work is drawn in a sweet style that is elegantly whimsical and  depicts the traditional stories as you would expect it to do. The art work is very detailed with pages filled with elements to color in. The Princesses outfits are all adorned with decorations and there are details in the background and foreground.

The line art is black, fine and very crisp. This makes it easy to see. Colorists that have minor visual impairment though may well be overwhelmed with the amount of smaller details like flowers that have been packed on the pages.

Some illustrations are more whimsically cutesy than others in the book like the Nutcracker and Alice in Wonderland.   Rather than detracting from the flow of the book, it seems to enhance it by giving it more variety in artistic style.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
