Pretty Bird Postcards Review

As most readers may know, I adore postcards. I love the small size that does not seem as intimidating as a large picture to color in. I love that they are printed on card stock paper. I also love the practical aspect that if I really wanted to part with one, I could actually post it to someone either for them to color in, or colored in by me. Personally, I think colored postcards look great when they are popped in a picture frame and that’s probably what I would do with them.

The Pretty Bird postcards jumped out at me last year, when I was shopping for some books in store. As they were wrapped in cellophane I did not have the opportunity to have a peek inside and see what the cards looked like.

Cover & Layout

The Pretty Bird Postcards are bound in a book format. The cover features colored birds that have a folk art/naive style of art about them with vibrant colors set against a blue background. Silver foil highlights add a pop of bling to the postcard cover.

Yellow cloth binding has been used for the spine of the book which matches the title text on the front cover.

On the back cover the same illustration appears but without the silver foil highlights.

The Pretty Bird postcards measure 17cm x 12 cm (6.8 inches x 4.8 inches)

Layout

On the inside cover copyright information has been provided together with a small bird to color in. The back inside cover features a small bird in flight to color.

There are 25 postcards within the book to color in.

On the reverse of each postcard is space for you to write addressee details and affix a stamp. At the bottom of each card a small bird has been used as decoration which is the same bird on each card.

Pretty Bird Postcards Images and Illustrations

I love the naive style of the birds on the cover and wish that the whole of the book had been in this style to be honest. As a fan of naive and folk style art I found it very appealing and cutesy. Throughout the book you will find many varieties of birds including peacocks, swans and cranes.

Most of the images fill the entire card with design which often includes other elements like flowers, butterflies or  bird cages.     There are several images that just comprise a bird that has a patterned decoration.

The line art varies throughout the book which is a reflection of the various artists involved in creating it.   On the whole, the bulk of the art work is a black, medium weight.       Whilst the lines are easy to see, colorists that have a minor visual impairment or an ailment that affects their enjoyment of coloring small spaces may find these cards too challenging.     As there is a lot of detail within a small area it could be difficult to see and color these areas for some colorists.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
