In the Pandora coloring book, animals wear fancy clothes in a land full of magical powers. It’s a delicate, whimsical journey through a fairy-tale world. The world of Pandora has elements of one of my favorite fairy tales, Alice in Wonderland throughout.

Pandora Coloring Book Review

I’ve been longing for this coloring book for months.   Whenever I seen the gorgeous photo of the cover online I added it to my cart.  Unfortunately,it was always the one that was sacrificed when the cost of the cart and shipping threatened to give me a heart attack.     Finally, I purchased it.   It took over 3 weeks for it to be delivered and whilst I do like it …I’m not madly in love with it 🙁   I may be in a coloring funk and may fall in love with it later.  I’m contrary like that.

This coloring book is the Korean version.    In September 2016 the English version will be released and you can pre 0rder it on Amazon.

Cover & Layout

The coloring book measures 25cm x 25cm (approximately 9.8 in x 9.8 in).   The card cover is slightly textured with the title ever so lightly raised.    The pre-colored image of the gorgeous rabbit and cards instantly reminds me of Alice in Wonderland (although the “Alice” is like none other that I have seen).  According to the Amazon blurb, the book is not about Alice in Wonderland but about fairy tales in general.     There are some definite nods to Alice in this book and I would love to hear what you think.

The card cover folds out, and sadly the opportunity to color something on the inner cover has not been used 🙁    I do, however, like the peach protective sheet that separates the cover from the nameplate page.  I do feel that the illustration used on the nameplate page could have been larger, making it easier to color in.     The fine details on this image will need  you to bring out all your fine tips  to color it in.

The introductory page, thankfully, has a larger image to color 🙂 and the cover page has been reproduced as a title page in the book.

The book has been bound very well and lays down flat easily.

Illustrations

The illustrations in this book have been printed on both sides of the white paper.  The paper is a medium weight, but I would test your wet mediums on the introductory pages first.    The line work has been carried out in a dull black and the lines are a fine line weight.   The illustrations, due to the line weight, have a delicate feel to them.

Some of the illustrations have a large amount of white space

Most of the illustrations within the book span both pages.    This is my first niggle.   Many of the illustrations could have been reformatted so that they would fit the page.    Some of the illustrations contain very little art work on the facing page and it seems a shame that there is so much white space.   For lovers of fancy backgrounds, this is a blank canvas for you.

A number of the illustrations run across the spine of the book which is always tricky to color.   However, the books lays down very well making this task a  lot easier.

I feel some of the illustrations could have been repositioned on the page

The illustrations are delightful featuring cute little animals a girl and a good dash of whimsy.  You will find fairy houses, a unicorn and a dressed rabbit throughout this charming book.

One of the problems for me, is that the book does contain a number of images with small fiddly bits that will be difficult for me to clearly see.    Usually, using my magnifying lamp solves this problem.

Gorgeous illustrations but a lot of white space

At the back of the book you will find a thumbnail index of illustrations within the book.

I will have to wait until I purchase the English version to find out what the pages of the text at the rear of the book refer to.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
