Joyous Blooms To Color – Coloring Book
Joyous Blooms to Color is a gorgeous coloring book filled to the brim with beautiful florals and lovely quotes.
Cover & Layout
Joyous Blooms to Color comes with a lovely textured cover with a pre-printed partly colored illustration on the book. I love it when the cover just shows partially coloring as it helps you imagine how else you could color the charming image. The colored component of the image has the look of having been colored in pencil and lovingly blended. The title is printed in hot pink foil which compliments the pink spine. The back cover has not been pre-colored and you could color that if you wished. The book measures approximately 25cm x 25cm (approximately 10 in x 10 in).
The cover page has been replicated at the front of the book as the title page. I am always comforted when I immediately see the cover image in the book. Usually, when I purchase it is online and it is the cover image that is my lure. Sadly, I’ve been disappointed before when the cover image has not been included in the book. The cover image follows with a double page spread of the title in a different design. There is a cute little dedication page decorated with owls and a nice nameplate page.
I would have liked to see a more ornate nameplate page in this book. There is a note from the author with tips on coloring, testing your markers and embellishing your final work. This is followed by two more pages on her inspiration and how she creates art. I find that these ancillary pages are all quite charming and they all have lovely decorative elements to color on them making them the perfect place to test markers and techniques.
Inspirational Messages with Beautiful Blooms
Illustrations
The illustrations are printed on white, medium to heavy weight paper which is quite smooth and lovely to touch. Based on colorists who have colored within the book it stands pencils well, water based markers, gel pens and Inktense (providing time is left for the medium to dry). It appears that some colorists have had issues with alcohol markers bleeding through the page. As always, test your mediums on the introductory pages to see how they take to the paper.
Variety of Floral Based or Inspired Images
The only negative that I have with this book is that it is beautiful. As a thing of beauty it would have been lovely to frame some of the pages once colored. However, that is impossible as sadly the illustrations have been printed on both sides of the paper 🙁 I guess I’ll have to buy two copies 
The line work within the book is lovely, clear, black and ranging from a fine weight to a medium weight. I have no difficulty viewing the illustrations without the benefit of my glasses.
Illustrations within the book range from lovely inspirational messages, beautiful blooms and whimsical gardens. There are one or two patterns within the book, but it is predominantly floral based. I admit, I am not a fan of the patterns but understand that they are great to add variety to the book and give your mind a different stimuli from coloring blooms.
I love the range of images that include illustrations with small details and those with larger areas. For this reason, it would be a good book to have in your coloring journey. You could start with illustrations that are larger, and as your skill and technique change, you can work your way through the book.
Variety of Illustrations
There are approximately 8 double page scenes within the book with the balance being illustrations printed on a single page. Personally, I would have preferred the book to be full of the single page illustrations printed on single sided paper. Perhaps some fold out posters at the back for the double page spreads would have been good. I would have been happy to pay a little more for the book if it had that.
The book lays down well with hardly a nudge. This is good news as most of the illustrations on one side of the book tend to run to the spine. The spine area of the book is always tricky to color but is made easier, in this case, by the way the book has been bound.
Joyous Blooms to Color – Japanese Inspired Floral Garden
I adore this book and I will probably end up buying another copy so that I can use both pages to color and frame.
