Hem ljuva hem Coloring Book  Review

As most readers will know,  I am a huge fan of the art work of  Emelie Lidehall Oberg.     Her first coloring book, Sagolikt is one of my all time favorite books and her second coloring book is Sagor och Sagner has been stored in its own special spot so it won’t be harmed by other books or humans 🙂

In 2016,  Emelie also released Hem ljuva hem tavelbok which is a collection of 20 posters.      This book is quite difficult to find, where the shipping to Australia does not require a second mortgage on the house.    For months,  I’ve had the lovely Hem ljuva hem in my shopping cart, waiting to buy another book so the shipping cost was more reasonable for me.      As most readers know,    I buy 99% of my coloring books so just like readers,  I need to watch the budget (and also hide the credit card statement and boxes from hubby :))!   About a month ago,  when I purchased Sagor Och Sagner I also finally bought Hem ljuva hem, and I haven’t stopped admiring it since it was delivered.    It’s like the missing piece has finally made it to my house.

Hem ljuva hem means Home Sweet Home and combine that with Emelie’s charming illustrations and you end up with a lovely collection of posters to color and enjoy.       One of the things that I truly loved about this book is that I feel that it showed me more of the real Emelie.    I can see her cute, and a little naughty, sense of humour, which I find adorable.     By the way,    there is one naughty word that starts with “F” in the book.   You know the one.    I have to say, that I was delighted that Emelie included it in the book, as it makes her just a little more real for me.

Cover & Layout

The cover is a sturdy, thick card.    An ivory background is a lovely contrast to the pre printing in shades of sage green and mint.   There are a few little parts of line art that you could color if you wished.    The same color tones have been used for the cloth binding.

The cover art is indicative of the content that you will find in the book.   Cute little images of flowers, houses and teapots among other things.      As you can also see from the cover, some of the quotes are in Swedish but thankfully there are also quotes in English as well.       The cover art has also been included in the book for you to color in as well.

The binding on my book in the video is a little torn at the top which is a result of the shipping process.   This has also slightly damaged each top left corner of the pages.    It is only minor and would be covered if the image was framed.

Hem Ljuva Hem is an oversized coloring book measuring in at 29.7 cm x 21cm (11.7 in x 8.5in) (slightly larger than A4 Australian sizing).

The inside covers also feature line art on the side for you to color in.

Ancillary Pages

There are no ancillary pages within the book.

Layout

Each illustration is printed on single sided, thick, off white card stock.    The glue binding makes it very easy to remove each illustration from the book for framing or coloring.

All of the illustrations have been well centered and positioned on the page for ease of coloring.    Even though some illustrations have line art on the whole of the page, the book folds down and lays flat for ease of coloring.

One of my coloring pages has a printing error on it (life is short buy the dress) where at the bottom of the page some printing is visible from another image.   To me,  it looks like this error happened during the paper trim stage.  It is only minor and would be covered by framing, but it does feel like a bit of a blemish on my beautiful book.    My hubby used to be a printer so I have a little sympathy with book publishers and the things that can happen during the print process.    I’d still prefer it not to be there though 🙂

Little bit of extra printing on a page within the book

Hem ljuva hem Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

All of the art work has a comforting home theme.     You will find lovely little houses to color in,  pretty teapots,  tea time spreads with cupcakes and strawberries and cute little quotes throughout the book.      Emelie’s illustrations are always beautifully drawn and charming and this book is no different.

Colorists that love flowers will adore the different sizes and styles included.  In a book that has 20 illustrations in total Emelie has managed to pack in a number of things that makes her art recognisable.

Most of the art has a lot of elements to color in on the page including the lettering.

Many of the illustrations have enough white space to add some background detail to if you wished.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
