Introduction

Floral Frenzy coloring book is produced by Creative Haven part of the Dover Publications group. This publishing house produces a number of good quality coloring books for adults with a range of different themes to please the coloring market.

Cover & Layout

Creative Haven use the same format for all the coloring books that they produce.    Floral Frenzy coloring book has a soft cover with a beautiful, vibrantly colored image from the book on the cover.    The back cover features a partially colored image from the book.  Red is used as a complimentary color, for the publisher name and the spine of the book.    Creative Haven always choose a complimentary color on their books, which makes it easy to find the coloring book in the bookshelf.

On the inside covers, both front and back, you will also find colored images from the book to inspire you.

The book measures 8.2 in x 11 in (which is roughly A4 sized).   This is a standard size for a lot of coloring books on the market.

There are 31 floral illustrations in the book to color in.   All are printed on white, perforated paper for easy removal.

A title page with a scaled image from the book starts the book with copyright information on the reverse.    This would be a great spot to test out any markers or other mediums you may wish to use in the book.     As the book is perforated, I prefer to remove the images and attach them to my clipboard.    Coloring, this way, means that I can use whatever medium that I wish without damaging the next page.

All of the images are orientated portrait style and are printed on single sided paper (other than the ancillary pages).

Illustrations

The illustrations in the book match the title of  a floral frenzy.     These flowers are not standing sedate in vases or billowing softly in the breeze in a field.   The florals are illustrated in a frenzy of abstract and surreal design.      You will find a variety of flowers that have other elements added to form a pattern.  Additional elements may include droplets, hearts, swirls and stones.

As these designs fill the page with detail, it may be challenging for colorists with visual impairment to distinguish between elements on the design.    Having white space around images generally helps with readability and these images are packed with detail.

If you are a fan of backgrounds, there are no opportunities here for adding background effects as you would need more white space to do that.   Many images would look great with background color added though.

Although the images are filled with detail, there are many elements that have larger spaces for ease of coloring.    However, the amount of elements on the page may require you to focus more to ensure that you are coloring the correct element.

The cover art has also been provided in the book for you to color in as well.

Images have been drawn with a dull black medium line weight generally throughout the book.    Some finer detail in the design has been drawn with a finer weight.

The illustrations fill the whole of the page and have been positioned away from the perforation guide.  The artist has balanced the elements in the design well on the page.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
