Exotischer Urwald Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of Exotischer Urwald Coloring Book by Good Wives and Warriors.

Exotischer Urwald Review

Exotischer Urwald is German for Exotic Jungles.    We may know the team at Good Wives and Warriors for their  “escape” series of fairy tale and historical coloring books like Escape to Wonderland,  Escape to Christmas Past, Escape to Oz and Escape to Shakespeare’s World.    Exotischer Urwald reflects their same artistic style yet it is totally different from their previous works.      Exotischer Urwald was not published by the same publisher as the “escape” series but commissioned by German publishers, Grafe Und Unzer,  and the whole of the book is in German.

Cover & Layout

The fold out thick card cover on Exotischer Urwald features a partially colored sphere of tropical flowers.   The title is deep green and is not foil but a transfer style add on.    The gold disc in the right hand corner displays the publishers logo.

The card cover folds out with a very generous size.   The front fold out displays a picture of Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell,  the team at Good Wives and Warriors working on a mural together.   This is accompanied by text in German.    The back cover fold out features two beautiful postcards to cute out and  color in complete with addressee information.

The inner card cover features an elaborate and detailed illustration of flowers.

On the back cover the cover art used on the front wraps around to form a border around the publisher’s text blurb in German.

The spine is dark green with ends of golden yellow.

Exotischer Urwald measures 24cm x 23cm.

Ancillary Pages

The front title page is a reproduction of the front cover art.     A two page extended title page follows that is filled with elaborate leaves and flowers in a big and bold repeat design.

This is followed by a two page text in German from Louise and Becky presumably introducing the book and themselves.    This is beautifully framed in more flowers and leaves.

Any of these pages would be suitable to test out your mediums and see how they react with the paper and your coloring style.

Publishers details are contained on the last page of  the coloring book before the Bonus section.

Bonus

In addition to the postcards incorporated in the cover design, there are other treats in this book.

At the end of the book, printed on cardstock and perforated you will find 3 full page posters to remove an dcolor in.   In addition there is another page that contains two large illustrations on it with a center perforation as well.   These could be  used in small frames or as large bookmarks.

Layout

Exotischer Urwald is printed on both sides of the slightly textured white paper.     Within the book (excluding ancillary pages and bonus pages) there are 56 double page scenes where the line art does run to the gutter (spine) of the book.      Exotischer Urwald lays down reasonably flat and with time the spine should relax enough to color in these areas.

All of the illustrations have been orientated portrait style with no landscape drawings.

Exotischer Urwald Images & Illustrations

The team work of  Good Wives and Warriors constantly amazes me.     Whenever I look through their books I try and figure out which artist did the bulk of the work and I never know the answer.     To be able to illustrate as they do together throughout 5 coloring books and other projects fascinates me.    The fact that they appear to do it so seamlessly amazes me.     The work that the produce is never disjointed but always flowing with the theme that they have selected for the coloring book.

Exotischer Urwald has been sitting on my desk for so long I had to wipe the dust off it before I filmed the review.     As soon as I refreshed myself on what was in the book I felt dread.   Why had this gorgeous book been sitting in my “to do” pile for so long?        Exotischer Urwald   is a beautiful book lovingly made with attention to detail.

Postcards to color in

The illustrations focus on an exotic jungle or rainforest theme.     When the book opens you will see a compass in the left hand corner.  If you look hard enough at the elaborate arrangements of florals and leaves you will see the countries of the world that they are representing in the book.

The first jungle or rainforest Good Wives and Warriors are taking us to is  the Daintreein Australia.      It is so nice to see down under at the top of something for a change but I am sure that the illustrations were inserted alphabetically 🙂     Elaborate leaves, bush turkeys, I assume and green frogs fill the page.     An elusive platypus is even curled up in one design.

All of the jungles represented have the names incorporated into the image.   It may be wrapped in vines but it is identified somewhere.    The abundance of animals in  Yakushima Japan has me reaching for my passport.   They are all so cute

Exotischer Urwald is absolutely packed to the brim with beautiful flowers of an amazing variety that reflects the country.   As well as these flowers and accompanying greenery there is an amazing amount of animals represented in the art work, frogs, fish, monkeys, owls, coiled snakes and beautiful birds are all here (there’s even a bunny).    One thing that Good Wives and Warriors do not do is fill their books with repetitive patterns.    Each page is filled with gorgeous art work that is highly detailed and beautifully drawn.

The line art is black and crisp and visually easy to see.  However, Exotischer Urwald  may not be suitable for all colorists as it is very highly detailed.   Most of the pages are filled with illustration  and this may be difficult for colorists with minor visual impairment to discern.    Although some images have large open areas of space within elements, the bulk of the images pack a lot of detail into a small area and this may not suit colorists with motor skill challenges.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
