Cats Flowers and Friends Coloring Book Review
If it has cute little animals on the cover it’s sure to be a coloring book that will have me “adding to cart” faster than speeding light. Nothing I like more than coloring books filled with cute little animals.
Cover & Layout
The cover has a glossy dust jacket on it with a white background. The colored elements have the appearance of pencil coloring and show a variety of cute animals including a pig, fox, calico cat, dog and duck. The back cover fills the page with a gorgeous tree house and it’s kitty owners completely colored in.
The front inner flap contains text in Japanese which I assume is about the artist. On the back flap there are advertisements for other books by the same publisher.
On the inside of the dust jacket a pre printed dull charcoal background has white outlines of flowers that you could color in if you wished.
The laminate card cover of the coloring book proper features the line art for the front and back cover art. You could color this in if you wished. Your mediums will need to be able to penetrate the laminate of the cover.
Cats, Flowers and Friends Coloring Book measures approximately 25cm x 25cm.
Ancillary Pages
A title page with a few small elements and text in Japanese on the back commences the coloring book.
The last page in the book also features a page with text in Japanese and few cute kitties to color with copyright and publisher information on the reverse. Any of these pages would be a great spot to test out your mediums.
Layout
The illustrations have been printed on both sides of the dull white, medium quality paper. Most of the art work is on a single page although there are a few double page spreads in the book. A lot of thought and care has gone into the positioning of the double page scenes to avoid the tricky spine area as much as possible. Some images will need you to color up in the center part of the spine but fortunately the binding makes the book lay down flat easily.
Cats Flowers and Friends Coloring Book Images and Illustrations
As the title of this Japanese coloring book promises this book contains cute images of cats, flowers and various critters that are friends with the cats. All of the cute critters have been drawn as outlines without added texture and are just simple shapes. This means that you can have fun adding your own stripes, spots and markings to the animals if you wanted. These simple outlines are often less intimidating to colorists, especially those that are new and inexperienced with coloring fur and other animal textures and suit the “cute” theme of the coloring book.
You will find a variety of different scenes to color in, circus based, tree house, fish bowl, garden and even cocktails. These kitty cats get around with their friends so nearly every page has a cute critter on it. There are some lovely houses and towns to color in and gorgeous interiors as well.
The style of the art work is simple and cute so it is sure to be a people pleaser with colorists of all ages due to the different variety of images.
There are drawings that contain small elements on the page which gives you a “little” piece to color when you are short on time as well as larger more detailed pieces. However, some of these images have small details which can be tricky to color if you have a minor visual issue or other challenging health conditions.
Although the line art is easy to see, the use of a dull black line may make it difficult for some colorists. The line weight is a medium throughout with some details in a finer line.
