Blomster Mandala Coloring Book Review – illustrated by Maria Trolle

Blomster Mandala is a truly beautiful coloring book that is a work of art by Swedish illustrator, Maria Trolle.

It is bound in a hard back cover with a delightful color design with dashes of gold foil highlighting on the cover and spine.  The book measures approximately 25.5 cm x 21.5 cm.  Inside, as with most Swedish books for coloring that I have, there is a double page black matt spread.  Presumably, this is used to protect the front and back of the book illustrations or perhaps as a design feature.  Either way, I love it.  It gives the books a feel of a high quality coffee table book.

Even the lovely information  page has a beautiful bird and feather illustration.   This would also be a great spot to test out your wet mediums and see if you have issues with marking or bleed through.      There is a lovely nameplate page for you to color as well.

The paper is white but not bright white and very good quality (although test first).

Illustrations are presented on both sides of the paper 🙁  as is common with most coloring books.    This book has a few illustrations that are a double page spread but the majority are single sided images.    It seems a shame that it wasn’t printed on single sided paper with perhaps a fold out for the larger spreads 🙁  Saying that, the art work is beautiful so I will forgive the double pages 🙂

Inside you will find gorgeous floral images outlined with clear, black lines.  Interspersed in this floral garden are lovely trees, birds, a beautiful deer, bunny rabbits and more.  There are some beautiful quirky images in the book. In addition, for added variety, there are approximately 5 double page spreads with a black background.    Most of the single page images are nicely presented on the page, avoiding the hard to reach spine area.   The double page spreads unfortunately, do run into the spine so it may be tricky coloring those spaces.

I like the clearly defined images, that make it easy for these old eyes to see and the variety of images both in complexity and subject matter.   This is truly a lovely coloring book that has been well thought out to satisfy colorists.

I’m Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I’m all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
