Adventi Omalovanky Coloring Book  Review

When I seen some colored art by Dagmar Medzvecova on Instagram a while ago, I immediately fell in love.  Beautifully colored cute animals are always enough to make this girl swoon.     Of course,  I had to have the coloring book and you may have seen me flip through it in my Mini Czech Coloring Book Haul on You Tube months ago.   I had kept it aside to review with others for Christmas (that date has certainly snuck up on me!)

The artist states that the pictures “All of my illustrations contained in Advent coloring pages are not deliberately too detailed, precisely because each picture can be colored during one day during Advent. However, you can start coloring a lot earlier, or leave more pictures for a day …

Cover & Layout

Adventi Omalovanky is a available in either a glue binding format or spiral binding.   I chose the spiral binding.   Both options are the same price.

As t his is a Christmas themed coloring book,  the traditional red has been used as the background color on the front cover with a scaled down picture from within the book.     The front cover is thin, glossy paper  which will likely tear easily if you do not protect it.   The back cover is thick, sturdy card making it great to rest the book on your lap if you like coloring like that.

Adventi Omalovanky Coloring Book measures approximately 29 cm to the start of the coil binding (11.5 in) by 21cm (8.5in) which is A4 sized for most countries.

Ancillary Pages

There are no ancillary pages.

Layout

There are 23 illustrations  that have been printed on one side of the paper.    At the end of the book there is a double paged poster (A3) to color, making a total of 24 images to color.  It is very clever the way that they have managed to incorporate this poster in the coloring book.  The paper is high quality, white, 250 gsm paper suitable for watercolors and wet mediums if you wish to use those.

Each illustration has been framed in a border to ensure ease of coloring and avoiding the binding.

Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

Dagmar consciously decided to include images in this book that the colorist could color in one day during the advent period.   There is a wide variety of images in this book with a Winter/Christmas theme to them.    Lovely snow globes to practice your glass effect on. Gorgeous Christmas bells, trees and holly.   Cute little animals .. bunnies, cats, bears, dogs and cows.

Line art is black, crisp and a medium weight.   Colorists with a minor visual impairment should not have any problem seeing the imagery.   Some illustrations have dots added to the picture to indicate shadow lines and others have outlines added in small dots.   This technique is often used by artists to ensure that when these areas are colored it merges with the background without distinct outlines.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
