Bold Springtime to Color Coloring Book Video Review

I hope you enjoyed the video review of Bold Springtime to Color Coloring Book illustrated by Eleri Fowler.

Bold Springtime to Color Coloring Book Review

Bold Springtime to Color nearly didn’t make it to my shopping cart. In December, when Words of Love to Color was published I was disappointed with the publisher for choosing a thin paper on which to print Eleri Fowler’s beautiful art work. This was a difficult pill to swallow, when fans of Eleri Fowler had previously been spoilt with luxurious paper in Joyous Blooms to Color. It’s always hoped that, as time progresses, the changes made are an improvement not a step back, which I feel the paper in Eleri’s last two books are.

However, I love Eleri’s art work, so I have put aside my feelings for the publishing change but it is reflected in my rating.

Of course, the bunny rabbit on the cover, always my soft spot, tipped me over the line to add Bold Springtime to Color to the cart. The obsessive compulsive part of my brain also could not bear an incomplete set of Eleri’s coloring books.

Cover & Layout

The cover of Bold Springtime to Color is consistent with Eleri’s previous books Joyous Blooms to Color, My Mother My Heart and Words of Love to Color.   A textured white matte card is beautifully colored in part with cute animals on one side and line art with colored accents on the other side.   A fresh green has been used as foiling for the title which complements the grass green on the spine.

The cover art accurately depicts the content of the book and the illustrator’s style of art.

A floral based wreath in line art on the back of the book frames the publisher’s blurb printed in grass green text on the back.   Keen colorists could color the cover art if they wished.

Bold Springtime to Color measures  25.5 cm x 25.5 cm (10 in x 10 in)

Ancillary Pages

Eleri Fowler has a set layout for all of her coloring books.   The start of the book commences with a reprint of the cover art in line art form for you to color in.  This is followed by a two page spread extended title page.   A page setting out copyright and dedication follow.    A lovely floral and butterfly wreath forms a nameplate page and then there are three further ancillary pages.  One comprises a heart design for you to color, another on “My Influences” and concluding with “Behind the Scenes”.    All of these pages are beautifully framed in flowers and leaves for you to color in and would be a great spot to test your mediums.

At the rear of the book there is a page dedicated to List of Quotes and another for “About the Author”.

Layout

Bold Springtime to color comprises illustrations printed on both sides of the white, smooth paper.      The paper is on the lighter side of medium quality.    All of the illustrations have been orientated portrait style within the book.

There are 10 double page spreads where the line art runs to the spine of the book.    In addition, there are a number of single page illustrations that abut the spine area of the book.   At the moment, the binding on the book is very stiff and rigid.    I am hopeful, that with further use, it will relax enough to color in those tricky areas.

Bold Springtime to Color Images & Illustrations

Eleri Fowler has a beautiful illustrative style.     Her lines are crisp, black and clear and her art work has a lovely restrained whimsy elegance to it.     Interspersed with her beautifully drawn flowers and animals you will find quotes to color in or just to inspire you as you color your way through the book.

You will find pages packed with florals,   lovely quotes surrounded with Spring themed borders and all the things that “spring” to mind 🙂  when you think of the season.    Young animals, eggs ready to be hatched and beautiful seasonal fruit and vegetables are scattered throughout the book. Of course, you will also find a number of bunnies among the pages as well 🙂

Outlines have been drawn in a crisp, black ink and are a medium weight.   Colorists that have visual challenges will be pleased that many of the images have large open spaces making it easier to color in.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
