Fairy Miracles Coloring Book  Review

Ever since I saw the pages from the first coloring book by Klara Markova,  Magical Delights, I have been in love.   The little fairy houses, attention to detail, and the love that you can feel on the pages make me tear up.    There is something incredibly beautiful,  yet sweet and innocent wrapped up in the pages.     It is pure escapism to turn each page and imagine the world that Klara creates for us.

Cover & Layout

The cover of Fairy Miracles follows the same format as Klara’s previous coloring books – Magical Delights and Tenderful Enchantments.    A sturdy hardback with a lovely navy cloth binding and gold tooling provides practicality and luxury.    The front and back cover both feature illustrations from the book, beautifully colored and sprinkled with gold foiling.   In my more romantic moments, it seems like a sprinkle of fairy dust to me.

To protect the coloring book proper, double matt black protective pages feature at both ends of the book.

Ancillary Pages

Klara always adds little treats with the coloring books, usually a bookmark featuring elements from the book.    This time, as well as the bookmark, there is a small little note tag and a larger note from Klara which has been beautifully decorated with cupcakes and mushroom houses.

The title page features beautiful full-size illustrations and signed by Klara in light blue ink.  Overleaf the copyright information and a little information about Klara Markova has been printed.    These pages would be great to test out your mediums before diving into the fairy world.

At the end of the book, a baby dragon guards a thank you from Klara (which includes the elves and fairies that inspire her!).   A page features little fairy doors that you can color in and cut out.  You can then attach the little doors to one of the many fairy houses in the book.    I don’t think I could bear to cut the book but I love the little fairy doors to pieces!

Layout

The artwork is printed on both sides of the off-white, medium paper.

The main focal image is printed on the right-hand side.

On the left-hand side, there are smaller elements to color and space to write.  You could use this section to write your name, the date that you colored the main image, and what mediums you used.   You could also use it as a diary or to note down how you feel about the image or what inspired you when coloring it.     There are so many things that you could do with this side of the page!

Art Work

Klara’s artwork is sweet and whimsical.   In Fairy Miracles Coloring Book there is a multitude of cute little animals including bunnies, cats, dogs, and hedgehogs.    These sweet little animals are part of the little fairy world that Klara creates.   Little mushrooms feature throughout the book as well as cute little fairy houses.    Of course, there are fairies of all shapes and sizes and even a mermaid or two. Throughout the book, you will find a variety of flowers to color that adds interest to each image.

The line art is printed in a dull black.   Klara adds texture with fine lines and small black dots making it easy to work out where to apply shading to the image.   The line weight is a medium to the thick line for the most part that makes it easy to see, particularly for those with a visual impairment.

Many of the illustrations fill the entire page with a lot of small elements to color.    There are some illustrations that have white space allowing the colorist to add a background if they wished.

About Klára Marková

Klara Markova is a Czech jewellery designer and illustrator.    Her jewellery is created using traditional methods and has a sense of dreaminess and magic about it.   Little fairy houses and fairy bracelets have been created in silver and delicately molded.  There are amulets and crystals that are widely used.    Her jewellery is very indicative of her drawings in her first coloring book.    There are flowers, leaves, crystals and fruit representations that have been recreated into magic rings and fairy bracelets.   This similar imagery  is also in the coloring book and reminds you of her hand crafted jewellery.    An artist that creates jewels like this and lives in a dreamy, magical world  could only reproduce the same in illustrative form.   Her first coloring book, Carovne Lahodnosti (Magical Delights) reflects this magical world of elves, fairies and crystals and other delights.   Like her jewellery this coloring book encompasses a craftsman touch with a high attention to detail.

About the author

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
