Erica Ward Coloring Book  Review

Erica Ward is an American born artist that currently lives in Tokyo, Japan.     Her first coloring book and set of coloring postcards has been self published by her featuring beautiful women and flowers.  When I seen some of these images colored online I knew that it had to come home with me 🙂   Of course, when I was ordering the book I also noticed a small pack of 4 postcards.     I adore postcards!   They are so handy for a quick project or something to pop in your bag when travelling.     Of course, these were also added to the cart 🙂    When I received both items,  Erica also included a beautiful colored print of an image from the book, with a thank you note on reverse.  Both products were packed well in a clear plastic bag and happily survived shipping.

Cover & Layout

The glossy cover of Erica’s book features  images partially colored from the book.  The picture on the reverse was the picture that I received as an art print/ thank you note which you can see in the video.

Erica’s coloring book is a little smaller in size and page count than most books on the market.  Personally, this is a plus for me because I am hoping one day to finish coloring a book in its entirety!  The smaller the better for my challenge!   It measures 25.5cm x 18cm.

Ancillary Pages

There are no ancillary pages within the book.

Layout

The coloring book is printed on sturdy off white medium quality paper.    The artist recommends that colored pencils are used with the illustrations or other dry media.

There is staple binding in the book which could be easily removed if  required.

A combination of single page illustrations 7-8, one  double page scene and one page with an image with printing on the reverse fill the book.

All of the illustrations are orientated portrait style within the book.

Coloring Book Images and Illustrations

Although there are not as many illustrations as we are used to in our coloring books the pages that are in this book are beautifully drawn and illustrated.   If you are a fan of coloring skin and hair you will be able to satisfy that urge on each page.   You will notice that the artist has left the eye detail on the face blank for you to add your own interpretation.    Each face tends to look so peaceful and serene to me, I enjoy just looking at these pictures.

Each illustration also features an abundance of florals of different varieties and varying levels of detail.    As well as flowers, clothing and beautiful women you will also find fish, butterflies and of course a bunny to color in as well.

Some images are more detailed than others with hair texture and clothing embellishments added and others contain less detail so you can choose how much you wish to add.  The artist has varied the position of the face as well in her drawings from full face profile to slightly side profiles.  For colorists that love playing with light source you will be able to create interesting effects.

All of the illustrations h ave room to add soe background love if that is something you are keen to do.

About the author

coloringqueen

I'm Lea and I love everything to do with coloring! If it is a coloring book, a poster or even a bookmark that you can color in, I'm all over it. Of course, a girl has to have some pencils, markers, gelly rolls, pastels and what not to make those pictures pretty and I love those as well.

Whilst my coloring style lacks skill, I am enthusiastic and focused on enjoying the moment and having fun.
