Inspired by quilts seen in Amish country, many of these designs are based on traditional patterns, but some have been reimagined or repeated multiple times to create more intricate designs to color. Each quilt is printed on only one side of the page; facing pages contain inspirational Amish proverbs. To make the quilts even more colorful and interesting, sketch fabric designs – plaids, checks, paisleys, flowers, or abstract shapes – into the larger quilt blocks, use pattern stamps, or even collage fabric scraps to the pages. And if the designs inspire you to make quilts of your own, the pages can be used as templates for quilt-making.

Amish Quilts Coloring Book Review
I used to make a lot of quilts back many moons ago now. I certainly was not an expert or anything at all like that but I did enjoy it. My sewing skills primarily consist of sometimes sewing in a straight line so this is one sewing task that I am just about able to manage. The thing I liked the most about quilting was choosing all the different materials to use for the quilt. Pretty florals, lovely checks and some plains all mixed up together to create something wonderful.
When I seen the Amish quilting book it seemed quite foreign to me. The Amish are only something I’ve seen on tv shows in Australia and never experienced directly. What better way to get to know the Amish then through a coloring book?
Cover & Layout
The soft cover of Amish Quilts features two colored pieces against a black background.
On the rear cover is a colored partial page.
Amish quilts measures approximately A4 sized.
Ancillary Pages
The front cover has been reproduced as a title page for the book in black and white. This is followed by a page of copyright information and a page about the good. The author advises that the pages are inspired by Amish quilts seen and some have been reimagined. You can use your imagination to sketch in the florals and paisleys and other patterns that I used to love about my quilts.
Layout
The illustrations are printed on one side of the white, trade stock quality paper. On the reverse in black text are fun quotes and at the foot of the page is the name of the quilting design. It is a shame that the quotes are in such dark ink as they do shadow through to the other side. A dark grey would have reduced that appearance.
Each illustration has been framed in a border and is well positioned and centered on the page.
Coloring Book Images and Illustrations
There are a variety of quilting design pages in the book. Some with extremely small areas to color that would be difficult for colorists with a minor visual impairment. Quilting is quite geometric in a lot of the designs but many of the pages in this book remind me of a pattern based coloring book rather than a quilting book. For me, the mistake is having an entire page of the quilting block work rather than a small section. A smaller section would have allowed the colorist to draw in some of their favorite fabric patterns (even better if some of these were actually included) and enjoy coloring the page.
Line art in the book is black and crisp. There are varying line weights with some medium an fine. On some pages the line weight varies on the image when if it was following the pattern, it should not.
